This immigration bill is very similar to Arizona’s which requires business to participate in E-Verify and gives the police the ability to question the immigration status of individuals. One major difference is that this bill creates the criminal offense of “aggrevated identity theft” which is punishable by imprisonment from 1- 15 years and fines up to $250,000. “Aggrevated identity theft” is defined as “fraudulently using any counterfeit or fictitious identifying information concerning a real, fictitious, or deceased person with intent to use such information for the purpose of obtaining employment.”
